My names is Georgia and i'm the owner at foodbyGeorgia. (yeah I know, my business name is very original.)
I am a 21 year old food enthusiast from Sussex.
If i'm totally honest I cant remember when my love for food started but I always remember loving it from a young age. (My mum said 5 but what 5 year old doesn't love food....?)
I always remember seeing my Nan working in a cute little tearoom in Storrington and I desperately wanted to get involved.
After finishing school, I went straight into cookery college and then starting my first job in a professional kitchen!! Ooh boy it definitely was not what I expected....
The passion I always felt just wasn't there. Unlike me, I quickly realised not everyone was in the industry because they wanted to be, more that they had to be! Unfortunately, but fortunately this is where I learnt how to be independent. After finishing college and going into full time employment as a newly qualified chef I felted I was overwhelmed by the lack of experience and knowledge I received. This is 100% a job you need first hand experience with.
This workplace was definitely the make or break moment of my career so far; with a lot of blood, sweat and tears (and a couple of burns) I made it out alive. After working 90 hour weeks I decided I didn't want to work the finer side of dining anymore. I wanted to connect to my customers more... I wanted to take it back to where my passion first came from... cute little cafes with more to think about then the pay check at the end of the day.
I started working at just the place... a place that cares about the people that walk in through the door... a place where people came in not just for the food and drink but for the warm greeting that they got every time they walked through the door.
I thought i had everything I wanted, working in a homely cafe, I have the opportunity to express myself through the food i'm cooking, I even had the perfect hours to have a social life outside of work. Ohh boy... life has other plans. Covid19 came to the UK and stole my life (not to be dramatic).
Whilst at home in a lock down, on my 50th banana bread loaf; I thought "fuck it" lets try and sell it! Quickly after, I looked into getting a food hygiene rating for my home, I decided... lets start a business and spread the love through food in these difficult times. All I had to do next was pick a name... this was the bain of my life!! After hours of debating which was the best I thought "fuck it", I had an Instagram called 'foodbyGeorgia' which i showed off my baking through the years; I'll just start with that..... and foodbyGeorgia was created.
(probably not the only lockdown baby created ay?)
